Hamburger SV set for big windfall as West Ham United chase Amadou Onana

German club Hamburger SV are excited at the prospect of receiving a big windfall if Amadou Onana joins West Ham, according to a report from NDR.

The website reported on 18 July that the German club are set to pocket a sum of £5.2m if the rumoured deal goes through.

NDR suggests that the Belgian midfielder is facing the prospect of joining West Ham in a deal that would cost around £32m. However, doubts remain whether Lille will accept the offer, as they are playing hardball.

In case, the deal goes through, Hamburger SV are expecting to reap benefits from Onana’s transfer as they have secured a future re-sale percentage on Onana when they sold him last summer.

Superb addition

Onana would be a superb addition to the club, but it remains to be seen whether they can reach an agreement for him.

The midfield is one area that needs bolstering this summer, after Mark Noble announced his retirement and Alex Kral left the club.

There seems to be a shift in transfer strategy this season from the Hammers. David Moyes is looking to build a core set-up with young talents.

The players being targeted by the Hammers point in this direction. It seems like the club is prepared to spend big on young talents who could represent the club for years to come.

For instance, the Hammers are reportedly keen on signing Armando Broja from Chelsea who is only 20 years of age.

Onana is also 20, and the Hammers are looking to spend big on him. They are ready to take the gamble on young raw talents who are far from being finished products.

Hamburger SV must be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of Onana’s departure to West Ham, but it will still require a lot of effort from the Hammers to get the deal done.
