Graham Potter signs West Ham contract – Sky Sports

Graham Potter has signed a contract to become the new West Ham United manager, according to Rob Dorsett.

The reporter revealed on Sky Sports News (8 January, 19:09) that Potter has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal to replace Julen Lopetegui as the Hammers’ exciting new boss.

Potter returns to English football management for the first time since leaving Chelsea in April 2023.

The East Londoners are currently 14th in the Premier League, with Lopetegui and a further five members of backroom staff sacked after just 22 games at the club.

West Ham fans will be regathering that feeling of excitement which would also have been felt in the summer when Tim Steidten led the club’s transfer market charge.

The hope now is that Potter can get a better tune out of a clearly talented squad than Lopetegui had managed across his six months as head coach.

It will be a different style of play and a different outlook on how best to operate with the players he has from Potter, but Irons fans are all in agreement that the place needs freshening up and quickly.

The Hammers have not covered themselves in glory by any means with Lopetegui and his staff taking training on Wednesday in the knowledge they would not last the day in employment.

But a new era brings potentially a new springboard for success with the ailing Irons, and a manager in Potter who has turned down plenty of job offers in the past two years before signing up to this project.

In other West Ham news, Edson Alvarez could be on his way out this month with a Champions League club interested.
