Graham Potter sack update emerges after huge West Ham United claim

Graham Potter may be looking over his shoulders after West Ham United drew against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The London Stadium hosted Simon Rusk’s team on 19 April, with the Englishman taking interim charge of the Saints, whose relegation has been confirmed.

After a poor first-half performance, the Hammers came out firing after the break, with Jarrod Bowen giving Potter’s team an immediate lead.

The Irons had several opportunities to score more goals, but in the end, Lesley Ugochukwu snatched a point for the visitors in the dying minutes, leaving the former Chelsea boss scratching his head.

West Ham to give Potter time

There aren’t any major doubts over Potter’s future at the London Stadium after dropping points against Southampton, Henry Winter says.

The World Soccer journalist believes the Hammers must give the English head coach time to implement his ideas after replacing Julen Lopetegui earlier this year.

Winter feels Potter is a project manager, and the Irons must accept that he won’t make an immediate impact in E20.

Speaking on talkSPORT (20 April, 9:26), the journalist said: “West Ham, their fans can be a bit fractious. Obviously the London Stadium, issues about the atmosphere there. Not significant or heavy doubts about Potter because you’ve obviously got to give it time.

“He’s a project manager. Not every manager is that. If you appoint a manager like Potter, you have to accept he’s not an immediate impact manager. He absolutely has to be given time.”

David Sullivan needs to make sack decision at London Stadium

David Sullivan stuck by Lopetegui for far too long, and things only got worse under the Spanish manager.

It won’t be long before questions are asked about Potter, as he hasn’t been able to turn the tide at the East London outfit.

The English manager arrived at the London Stadium with high expectations following his admirable work at Brighton.

West Ham fans were excited about Potter, but some have already begun to doubt whether he’s the right manager for them.

While Lopetegui was blamed for failing to bring out the best from a squad that saw significant investment last summer, things haven’t improved drastically under the former Chelsea boss.

The 49-year-old has faced similar struggles as the Spanish manager, and one might wonder whether the issue at the East London outfit boils down to the players.

Sullivan will arguably regret letting David Moyes go as the Scotsman has thrived since returning to management at Everton.

Potter may not be under immediate threat of being sacked, but his situation will be one to keep an eye on.
