Graham Potter could reunite with Dan Ashworth as new West Ham hire on the cards
Graham Potter could be reunited with Dan Ashworth at West Ham United after questions about the future of Tim Steidten have been raised, according to Sean Whetstone.
The Hammers insider reported via his X account (10 January) that if the Englishman remains as the Hammers boss next season, one of Kyle Macaulay or Ashworth could become part of the Hammers’ backroom team and replace Tim Steidten.
Potter formed a successful working relationship with Ashworth, who was sacked as Manchester United sporting director last month, at Brighton, while Macaulay was part of the technical backroom team when he was in charge at Swansea City.
The report also adds that when Potter was asked about working with Steidten on Thursday, he ducked the question and gave a “politician’s answer”.
“Graham Potter ducked a question about working with Tim Stedtein yesterday during his press conference deciding a provide a politician’s answer stating everyone needs to work together,” Whetstone wrote.
“I’m looking forward to working with the staff here at the club, there will be lots of talented people here I’m sure. Part of our approach is to be collaborative, to work together. As I said we need everybody to be pulling in the same direction, we need to be aligned”
“Should Graham Potter remain at West Ham next season we could yet see Kyle Macaulay or Dan Ashworth reunite with him at the London Stadium.”
Graham Potter is the right man to lead West Ham United forward
Although it felt like a rather long and drawn-out process as Julen Lopegtegui patched up several losses on the bounce with one win here and there, the Spaniard was finally relieved of his duties by David Sullivan.
Since the season kicked off, it was clear that Loptegui wasn’t the right fit for the Hammers due to his negative playstyle and the similarities he had to David Moyes.
And, the fact that he couldn’t get Mohammed Kudus firing like he was last season also likely had a massive part to play in West Ham’s poor form this season.

While Potter may have been out of the game for a while, as was shown during his time with Brighton, he has a clear philosophy and plays rather attacking football, which is exactly what Hammers fans want.
At the moment it’s unclear whether the Englishman will be a success or not but if he’s reunited with Ashworth at the London Stadium then there will be high optimism they could repeat the recruitment success they enjoyed at the Amex Stadium.
