‘Going to be some fireworks’ – Carlton Cole reacts to ‘massive’ West Ham reveal

Carlton Cole has claimed that Kevin Nolan joining West Ham as a coach could be “massive” for David Moyes’ men.

The 37-year-old joined the backroom staff at his former club earlier this week alongside ex-England coach Paul Nevin, as per the BBC.

And Cole, who played with Nolan in east London, believes that it could be a very shrewd move from the Hammers.

Speaking on Soccer AM (Sky One, Saturday February 8th, 10.30am), when asked what Nolan would bring to West Ham, he said: “Leadership skills. He was massive for us, great skipper.

“He’s definitely going to bring a bit of charisma to the camp he’s going to give them a boost for the morale too. It’s massive, and he’s actually a good coach and a good manager.

“He’ll be in the changing room, boosting the boys up, making sure that they’re doing the right things because they need a bit of that at the moment. Really massive.

“It’s all fallen to Mark Noble cause he’s the last of the old firm, but I tell you, with those two in the changing rooms, there’s going to be some fireworks.”

How good an appointment can Nolan be for West Ham?

Right now, the Hammers need something to lift them, and Nolan could be the man to provide it.

Nobody’s expecting miracles from a backroom staff appointment, but there are few players from the Hammers’ recent past who knows what it means to pull on the claret and blue better than he does.

His presence around the place should hopefully bring in a much needed boost for the current squad, and as Cole mentions himself, that’s not withstanding Nolan’s coaching abilities too.

This feels like a smart move, and one that could be a great option in the long term if the club are keen to groom him for the top job one day.
