Gianluca Scamacca spotted at airport ahead of West Ham United move

Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca has been spotted in an airport in Italy as he prepares to fly to London to complete his move to West Ham.

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio shared an image on Twitter on 25 July of Scamacca preparing to leave for London, where he is expected to undergo his medical and complete other formalities on Tuesday.

According to The Guardian on 25 July, the Hammers are set to complete the £35.5m signing of the Italy striker after they’ve agreed personal terms with the player.

Di Marzio wrote on Twitter: “Gianluca Scamacca set to depart from Rome to London. Tomorrow he is expected to sign with West Ham.”

What a signing!

The 23-year-old is one of the highly-rated young strikers in Italy and West Ham are paying a premium fee to secure his signature.

The Guardian reports that the Hammers will pay £30.5m plus £5m in add-ons, and they have offered the Italy international a five-year deal with the option of an extra year.

West Ham made a concrete effort to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea, but they have moved quickly for Broja after the Blues dithered over selling the young striker.

West Ham

Scamacca, who joined Sassuolo from PSV Eindhoven in 2017, scored 16 goals in 36 appearances in Serie A last season. He is a tall and powerful striker who will provide competition with Michail Antonio up front.

The Hammers have bolstered their defence by signing Nayef Aguerd, secured the signing of Alphonse Areola on a permanent deal, and increased their depth in midfield by signing Flynn Downes.

Scamacca is a quality striker whose best years are ahead of him. This is really really exciting!
