Gianluca Scamacca news drops as Sky Sports shares West Ham United latest
Serie A side Salernitana are targeting a summer move for West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca, according to Sky Sports.
The forward has missed a large chunk of the campaign with a knee injury, having joined from Sassuolo last summer, and he is now being backed to move on already.
The 24-year-old has scored eight goals from his 27 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers.

“West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as a surprise target for Italian club Salernitana,” according to Sky Sports. “The Italy international would represent a coup for the Serie A side who enjoyed a late season turnaround under Paulo Sousa, going 10 games unbeaten to avoid relegation.
“Salernitana are set to have money to spend as they are expected to make a significant profit on the signing of Boulaye Día this summer, triggering a buy-clause in the player’s loan deal from Villarreal before selling him on.
“Scamacca, 24, is high on their list with a move back to Italy potentially appealing to all parties after an injury-hit first season in the Premier League in which he has started only 11 games.”

Underwhelming debut campaign
To say Scamacca has had a poor debut season in England would be an understatement, with poor form and a handful of injuries leading to him making just 16 Premier League appearances.
He has shown glimpses of his potential to be a top striker with some well-taken goals, but overall his displays in claret and blue have not been good enough, and a swift return to Italy may suit everyone involved.
West Ham won’t get anywhere near the £35.5million they paid for him last summer, but they could get some much-needed funds to bring in a striker that could immediately hit the ground running in East London next season.
Scamacca has proven himself in Serie A before, and so a fresh start in his home country may just bring out the best of the 24-year-old.
The Hammers really could have done with the injury-free and free-scoring Scamacca that they brought in from Sassuolo, but sadly for all parties it didn’t quite happen.
