Ghana media reacts to West Ham United ace Mohammed Kudus display in shock result v Sudan

West Ham United ace Mohammed Kudus put in a decent shift for Ghana in their 0-0 draw against Sudan in their AFCON qualifiers.

Kudus has been in below-par form for the Hammers this season after having a bust-up with Julen Lopetegui when he was hooked off the pitch at the 45-minute mark against Brentford on Saturday 28 September.

The Black Stars managed to gain a point from the stalemate against Sudan and now find themselves third in the table.

Ghanaian media reacted to the West Ham star’s performance with the Daily Mail Ghana (10 October) hailing the attacker for his “powerful” shot in the second half.

“Kudus was Ghana’s main creative force throughout the game, constantly trying to unlock Sudan’s defense,” they wrote.

“Early in the second half, he unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, but Mustafa once again came to Sudan’s rescue, making an outstanding save to keep the score level”.

The Ghanaian Times (10 October) also shared the same outlook that the Daily Mail Ghana had and believed that Kudus was a “constant threat” to Sudan.

“With his pace and aggression, Kudus remained a constant threat to the Sudan defencemen, threatening with several one-on-one situations,” they wrote.

However, online outlet Ghana Web (10 October) had a contrasting opinion and felt that the attacker could have done better.

“Mohammed Kudus wasn’t his usual best in the number 10 jersey. The West Ham United forward also missed the biggest chance of the day,” they shared.

West Ham United need Mohammed Kudus to refind his form

Last season, Kudus and Jarrod Bowen were by far and away West Ham’s best players.

The duo single-handedly carried the Hammers to a ninth-placed finish last term and made up for the sheer amount of goals that David Moyes’ men conceded last term.

In fact, West Ham’s defence were so bad that they ended the season with the fourth-worst defensive record in the Premier League with just the three relegated sides ranking below them.

Evidently, the Hammers’ season thus far hasn’t quite gone to plan. Lopetegui and his men are currently sitting 12th in the top flight and haven’t had a strong start to the campaign.

Bowen has managed to carry on from where he left things last season, but, Kudus on the other hand has failed to do the same.

This could be one of the many reasons why Lopetegui’s men find themselves where they are but in reality, they should be able to pick up his slack.

There’s no doubt that Kudus will come good at some point, but, for the Hammers’ sake, many will be hoping his form returns soon.
