‘Get the contract sorted out’ – Joe Cole urges West Ham to secure Moyes future
West Ham legend Joe Cole has called for the club to sort out a new deal for boss David Moyes so they can build on this successful season.
Since returning to the London Stadium Moyes has taken the Hammers from relegation battlers to Europen football hopefuls. It’s been a remarkable turnaround in just 14 months.
Cole thinks his former club’s future has to be with the Scot. Speaking to BT Sport before the match with Manchester City (Saturday, 12pm), he said: “If West Ham is to have some kind of future it needs to be with David Moyes. They’re on the right road – just don’t deviate.
“Get the contract sorted out, get his staff sorted out. Let him buy the players, let him find the next Tomas Soucek, the next Jarrod Bowen.
“He’s done a great job and he will continue to do that if he’s given the reigns to do it. If ever a time we need stability now is the time.”
Get it done
It is crucial that we agree to a sufficient deal with Moyes in the summer. It would be wrong for the board to not offer him what he’s asking for – an improvement of the recruitment structure.
Moyes has brought in Paul Nevin, Kevin Nolan and Stuart Pearce as part of his backroom staff and its working excellently. Nolan and Pearce in particular were leaders as players who demanded the best from their teammates. They’re clearly having a positive effect on the squad, so it’s important they agree terms also.
Amid the speculation of the vacant Celtic job, Moyes did come out and say he’s happy where he is. It’s not really a matter of if he signs a new deal, but when.
In this case, it’s just important we get the deal right. The players have all brought into his philosophy at the moment and the club looks unrecognisable.
With him in charge, and given a few more windows to further build the team, we could have a very exciting team for the next few seasons.
In other West ham news, Soucek further demonstrated his good character as Slavia Prague defeated Leicester in the Europe League.
