George Galloway reacts to West Ham United exit announcement on David Moyes
West Ham United have been slammed by MP George Galloway, who said that the club will “regret” their decision to part ways with David Moyes.
The Rochdale MP said that West Ham had made a “bad decision” in allowing Moyes to leave the club upon the expiring of his current contract, which the club confirmed in a statement on 6 May.
Moyes is widely expected to be replaced in the London Stadium dugout by Julen Lopetegui, who reportedly agreed a deal to become The Hammers’ new manager.
Posting on X, Galloway heeded a warning for the Irons, saying of the decision to replace Moyes: “You will regret that. Again.”
Moyes must be given fitting send-off by West Ham United
West Ham and Moyes have appeared to be coming towards a parting of ways for some time now, and the Irons’ 5-0 hammering by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 5 May only heightened calls for the Scot to be replaced.
However, the club’s lack of clarity on Moyes’ position, until yesterday’s announcement, was clearly unhelpful both on and off the pitch, with fans unsure whether to keep faith in the Scot‘s leadership and results beginning to turn for the worse.
The Hammers have not won in four matches, being well beaten on three occasions by Fulham, Crystal Palace and Chelsea, and their chances of qualifying for Europe next season now look almost impossible.
Regardless, there’s no doubt that Moyes’ tenure at the London Stadium has had a transformational effect for West Ham, and ahead of this season’s and his final home match in charge of the club against Luton Town, the Scot should be given a send-off befitting his achievements with the Irons.
From relegation battlers to European regulars and UEFA Conference League winners, Moyes undoubtedly leaves a positive legacy at West Ham, and Lopetegui must continue to progress the foundations laid if Galloway is to be proven wrong.
In other West Ham news, a £10m release clause claim has emerged as the Hammers have been given a chance to hire an ‘Elite’ manager.
