Gary Lineker wowed by what ‘spectacular’ Mohammed Kudus did for West Ham United v Manchester City

West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus blew Gary Lineker away with his “spectacular” strike in the Hammers’ defeat to Manchester City.

David Moyes’ era in charge of the Irons came to an end with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to the Etihad on Sunday (19 May) with a brace from Phil Foden and a strike from Rodri handing City another league title.

Although a majority of the praise from pundits and supporters alike was directed towards Foden for his excellent strike after only 70 seconds, Lineker was quick to heap praise on Kudus for adding some final-day drama.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football (20 May, 11:00) he said: “To be perfectly honest as neutrals, you want a bit of drama and that kind of killed it a bit.

“I couldn’t see anything but City being 2-0 up after 20 minutes, but that spectacular overhead kick from West Ham and Arsenal equalising added a bit of drama.”

Will West Ham United sell Mohammed Kudus in the summer transfer window?

It may well have been in a losing cause, but Kudus saved his and the Hammers’ most spectacular goal of the season for the biggest stage as he left everyone inside the Etihad and the Emirates, stunned with his first-half strike.

The Ghanaian international was signed this summer to add an extra spark in the final third with his immense dribbling ability and technique on the ball and over the course of his first campaign he has done exactly that.

West Ham United manager David Moyes
David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

For West Ham however, they will be wondering whether or not they will be able to keep the winger at the London Stadium for much longer, with various reports suggesting teams are already keen to activate his release clause.

One thing is for certain and that is that Julen Lopetegui will be desperate to work with the former Ajax man when he arrives this summer and therefore you would imagine West Ham will hold out for a massive offer.
