Gary Lineker shares key reason behind Nuno Espirito Santo turnaround at West Ham
Gary Lineker has been thoroughly impressed with West Ham’s form under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Hammers secured a vital 1-0 away win against Fulham on Wednesday, and the result has taken them level with 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.
Only three points separate West Ham in 18th and Leeds in 15th, and it’s fair to say that Nuno will be incredibly confident that his side can get out of trouble with nine games to go.
The team’s performances are a stark contrast from what was seen two months ago at the London Stadium, which shows how much of an impact Nuno has made over time.
And Lineker believes that is the key reason for West Ham’s upturn in fortunes.

Nuno Espirito Santo has finally managed to implement his style of play
Despite having a slow start to life in E20, Nuno has finally proved over time that his style of football is effective and successful.
The Hammers have won 14 points from their last eight games, and although the fans had initial doubts over his appointment, he is clearly the right man for the job.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast on Thursday, Lineker couldn’t help but praise West Ham’s fighting spirit.
He said: “Nuno has made a big difference, and he’s clearly a very good coach. He’s really starting to implement some of his ideas at Forest.

“West Ham’s form has dragged so many teams into it, because a few weeks ago, they looked gone.”
Alan Shearer added: “What a win for West Ham. I mean, what a turnaround.”
Although he was on the brink of the sack, Nuno was given time by West Ham, and it’s safe to say that they are currently reaping the rewards.
After being questioned throughout the season, several players have stepped up to produce big moments that could make all the difference at the end of the campaign.
Alan Shearer is spot on about Crysencio Summerville
However, the standout has been Crysencio Summerville, who has carried the team on his back at times.
The Dutchman has been phenomenal in 2026, and his winning goal at Craven Cottage was one of pure composure and confidence.
Shearer said: “Summerville has made a huge difference, that’s seven goals in 10 games now.”

Nuno has finally gotten the best out of the 24-year-old, and there is no doubt that he is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League.
Summerville can single-handedly keep the Hammers in the top flight, and it’s imperative that he stays fit for the remainder of the campaign.
If he does, then West Ham could definitely avoid relegation.
