Garth Crooks: West Ham United and David Moyes should part ways this summer regardless of relegation

Garth Crooks believes David Moyes and West Ham should part ways at the end of the season regardless of if they stay in the Premier League.

The Hammers claimed a 1-0 win over Fulham to move away from the relegation zone with the manager’s job on the line, in a huge result for the team and for their season.

And while selecting defender Kurt Zouma for his Premier League team of the week for BBC Sport (9 April), Crooks touched on Moyes’ future at the club and believes he should leave the London Stadium regardless of if they stay up or not.

“This was also a massive win for the Hammers, particularly as they have gone 11 league matches without a win,” he wrote.

“This puts the East End club on 30 points – and 36 points should see them to safety.

“However, the question remains: is Moyes the right man to take West Ham forward next season? I think not.

“He has done a decent job at London Stadium but I think an amicable parting of the ways would be a dignified and fitting way to end a polite and interesting association.”

Definitely

This has been a terrible season so far at West Ham, and regardless of how it ends it hasn’t been good enough by any stretch of the imagination.

This is a team that finished 7th last season and then pumped almost £200m worth of talent into it only to go backwards, and the players have simply stopped responding to the methods of Moyes.

The win over Fulham was a good result no doubt, but it would make a lot of sense if in the summer the club looked at alternatives to replace Moyes and let him leave on his own accord.

Fans have already lost patience with him and aren’t backing him beyond a game-by-game basis, and unless the board are blind they can surely see it’s not working with him anymore.

If the board are content to keep him around until the end of the season there is nothing the fans can do about it, but it would be crazy if they didn’t look into replacing him in the summer regardless of if we stay in the Premier League or not.
