Gabby Agbonlahor sends West Ham United ‘doom and gloom’ message live on talkSPORT

Gabby Agbonlahor has reassured West Ham fans that their season is not all doom and gloom despite the heavy defeat to Fulham last time out, ahead of their Premier League clash with Wolves.

The former Aston Villa striker pointed to the fact that the Hammers are just three points away from Manchester United despite some of the frustrations they have felt so far this season.

Agbonlahor accepted that some of their results have not been especially inspiring, but insisted they are performing well in the Europa League and should be pleased.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [16 December, 19:24], Agbonlahor shared: “If they win tomorrow they’re on the same points as Manchester United. So it’s not that bad for West Ham, do you know what I mean?

“I think you look at maybe some of the recent results, but they’re in Europe, they’re doing well in the Europa League, and it’s not all doom and gloom for them.”

Perspective is important

The old thing of asking fans whether they’d be happy being x points off of x team at this stage of the season is often overdone, given it usually relies on the team in question having a poor season, but realistically West Ham fans would be pleased with their league position so far.

Before the clash with Wolves, they sit in the top half of the season, where a win would make them even more comfortable in their position and bring them level on points with Manchester United ahead of their clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

There have been obvious frustrations with Moyes. The style of play isn’t always as exciting as it potentially could be with the players on the pitch, and results don’t always live up to expectations, but they remain steady and competitive in all competitions.

Their Europa League progress was strong, topping their group in the final game, while the league progress is steady despite some frustrating days, so over the course of the season, it should be a strong one in East London.
