Gabby Agbonlahor in behind the scenes Adama Traore reveal after West Ham star’s weight-lift ban
Nuno Espirito Santo hasn’t been shy in speaking out about Adama Traore at West Ham.
The Hammers boss reunited with the Spaniard at the London Stadium in January with the hope of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
He has had a limited impact so far, with just five appearances under his belt in claret and blue so far.
That hasn’t stopped Adama from steering clear of controversy with emerging footage of him in the gym causing quite the stir.
Nuno spoke out about the winger’s work at Rush Green, and now Gabby Agbonlahor has had his say about what he saw during his Aston Villa days.
Gabby Agbonlahor trained with Adama Traore at Aston Villa
The ex-Barcelona man has always been famed for his unique combination of speed and strength throughout his career.
He has a build and skillset that arguably no one else in world football has, but he has always claimed it was thanks to genetics alone.
Adama did an interview with SoccerAM six years ago and stood by the idea that he doesn’t lift weights in the gym.
That has recently been proved incorrect by Crysencio Summerville after he shared footage on social media of the Spaniard doing exactly that.
Former Aston Villa teammate Gabby Agbonlahor has now provided further insight after spending a season with the winger in the 2015-16 season.
The ex-England international said: “He was at Villa with me, and he was always in the gym. I didn’t see him in the gym, but I heard he was always in there.”
What did Nuno Espirito Santo say about Adama at West Ham?
The 30-year-old worked together with Nuno at Wolves, and it is clear there is already a positive relationship between the two.
That has seemingly allowed the head coach to be more candid and let the wide man know exactly what he thinks.
The Irons boss has now made his feelings clear on Adama being in the gym, warning to stay away from lifting weights.
He said: “It’s incredible (his muscles), it’s genetics. His genetics have been like this for some time now, and he should avoid the gym. I’ve told him to stay out of the gym.
“It’s one of the things that I think he needs to realise. It’s enough weight that he carries. He’ll do prevention work (in the gym), but he’s not in there lifting weights.”
Considering Agbonlahor remembers him in the gym over 10 years ago at the beginning of his career in England, it may be a difficult habit to shift quickly.
