Fullkrug spoke to two West Ham United flops before sealing summer transfer
Niclas Fullkrug reportedly spoke to former West Ham players Sebastien Haller and Thilo Kehrer before his big-money move to the London Stadium in the summer, according to the Athletic.
The German international has endured a horrible start at the club after igniting plenty of intrigue prior to signing due to a remarkable Bundesliga campaign the season earlier.
However, a report in The Athletic states that Fullkrug spoke to two previous West Ham flops regarding his move to East London.
The report reads: “Fullkrug’s due diligence before making the move from last season’s Champions League runners-up involved canvassing the opinions of former West Ham players Sebastien Haller, who was a team-mate at Dortmund last season, and Thilo Kehrer, a fellow German international.”
Why has it not worked out for Fullkrug at West Ham?
A player with top-level international experience, a Champions League goal scorer and a Borussia Dortmund regular; all the makings of a successful Premier League player, surely? It would appear not.

Fullkrug’s first few months with the Hammers have been somewhat of a shambles with the German yet to get on the scoresheet in the four games he has played in all competitions.
One thing that was highlighted in his debut was his distinct lack of pace which is often crucial for a forward to succeed in such a fast-paced league.
Julen Lopetegui has also potentially hindered the forward’s ability to hit the ground running having only used him from the start in the EFL Cup when service was less than adequate.
One thing that should be used as encouragement, however, is the fact that Fullkrug evidently knows where the goal is. Despite the Bundesliga being a completely different proposition when compared to the Premier League, the German international notched an impressive 56 times in 157 appearances with spells at Dortmund, Hannover and Werder Bremen.
Albeit currently injured, fortunes can certainly change for Fullkrug however faith will need to be put in the striker by Lopetegui.
In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui believes Ange Postecoglou has made Tottenham one of the best teams in the Premier League.
