Fresh twist emerges in West Ham United bid to complete January transfer for Kalvin Phillips
A fresh twist has emerged in West Ham United’s push to sign Kalvin Phillips with West Ham’s commitment to the deal remaining in doubt, according to Claret and Hugh.
The outlet reported on its website on Monday (22 January) that the Hammers are yet to sign off on a deal to bring the England international to the London Stadium because of the cost involved, with City refusing to pay any part of his wages.
While Phillips is certainly being monitored by the Irons, Claret & Hugh say he is one of around 20 players that David Moyes’ recruitment team have identified and are keeping an eye on as they look to add to their ranks before the end of the January window.
Could still fall through
It seemed as though West Ham had all but signed on the dotted line to complete the acquisition of Phillips this month, but it seems as though this deal isn’t quite as cut and dry as most people originally thought.
Phillips’ wages are known to be incredibly high and it is supposedly what has stopped a number of other teams from making the move for the England international this month, especially as Manchester City are reluctant to pay a penny towards his paycheck.

West Ham will likely take their time before making a decision on this transfer as it is a massive financial commitment for basically very little in return as Phillips could well just return to the Etihad Stadium come the end of the season with little fanfare.
Everything should become clearer in the next few days, but it doesn’t seem as though supporters need to be consistently refreshing their social media accounts in the hope of seeing an announcement imminently.
