French newspaper reacts to West Ham win v Lyon
French newspaper L’Equipe has described Lyon’s 3-0 defeat versus West Ham as “catastrophic”.
The Hammers secured a passage to the semi-finals for the first time in 46 years with a superb victory in France on Thursday, after managing a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
L’Equipe was left amazed by West Ham’s third goal, which they described as a “fatal supersonic counter”.

Statement
The Hammers soaked an early pressure from the home side, but they grew in confidence as the game went on.
The visitors scored twice in seven minutes at the end of the first half, with Craig Dawson and Declan Rice giving the side a massive lift.
Any potential chance of a comeback from Lyon was quashed after the break as Jarrod Bowen scored immediately from a superb counter-attack.

West Ham will now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final after the German side defeated Spanish giants Barcelona 3-2 at the Camp Nou.
However, it’s the manner of the victory that should really please Moyes. The Hammers were without Kurt Zouma and Aaron Cresswell for this game, and yet they looked solid at the back.
Pablo Fornals played a gorgeous pass for Bowen who picked his 15th goal of the season.
With Barcelona out, the Hammers will feel that they have a good chance here to progress to the finals.
