West Ham United midfielder Freddie Potts is set to be given a chance in pre-season after an impressive loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers, according to Roshane Thomas.

The Athletic journalist reported that the 20-year-old Hammers academy product will be hoping to feature in Julen Lopetegui's plans this summer.

Potts, whose three first-team appearances for West Ham all came in Europe in the previous two seasons, played 36 times and scored twice for Wycombe in his season-long loan as the Chairboys finished 10th in League One.

Lopetegui has reportedly agreed a deal to succeed David Moyes in the London Stadium dugout, and Potts will likely be allowed to impress before a decision is made on whether he'll make another loan move.

Potts could make impact in West Ham midfield

Lopetegui has a big rebuilding job on his hands at the London Stadium this summer, with midfield one of the areas which could change in the next few months.

With Lucas Paqueta heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, space could open up in the middle of the park for a player like Potts to stake his claim.

Freddie Potts will be hoping to impress incoming West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui.

James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Tomas Soucek will undoubtedly be the go-to players for Lopetegui, as they were for Moyes, and the emergence of players like George Earthy, who scored against Luton Town on 11 May, shows that Potts could well be given a first-team chance next season.

The pursuit of star players to facilitate Paqueta's expected departure may move Potts further down the pecking order at West Ham, but with Lopetegui's arrival at the club representing a clean slate for all previously out-of-favour players, the time is now for Potts to make a name for himself.
