Frank McAvennie shares Michail Antonio view, ‘he’s talking’ about West Ham United exit
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has suggested Michail Antonio is talking as if he wants a move away from West Ham United after the Jamaican striker was linked with a January exit.
Antonio admitted on The Footballer’s Football Podcast (26 January) that talks had taken place with other clubs about a potential transfer.
McAvennie has since suggested the 32-year-old could be after “change” having made himself an “icon” at the London Stadium.

“Well I don’t know about starting before them [Danny Ings and Gianluca Scamacca] but he was the only one that was fit at the weekend,” McAvennie exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“Some of the things he’s been talking about, it’s as if he’s talking about getting a move and I don’t know where he’s going to go from West Ham. He’s a West Ham icon and the fans love him.
“Could he go to a better club than West Ham? No, I don’t think he will. I don’t think any of the big clubs will come in for him, but then sometimes, people just want a change.
“Ings came on in the second half and I like him. He and Scamacca could play well together and it’s great having two players that can do that.”

Antonio was linked with a move elsewhere in the January window, and after the arrival of Ings, the interest could once again emerge in the summer.
The Jamaican is contracted to the Hammers until the summer of 2024, although the board do hold the option to extend by an extra year.
