Frank McAvennie: Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard not right fit for West Ham

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie believes that West Ham will not and should not make a move to sign Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard.

According to the Sunday Mirror (05/12/2021, pg 70), the Hammers have shown interest in bringing the Belgium international back to the Premier League.

After leaving Chelsea for Real Madrid two seasons ago, Hazard’s career has not taken off the way he wanted it to.

Arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu as a Galactico, he has had a rotten time with injuries.

Only recently, has he returned to full fitness and has been playing a few La Liga games for them.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “I wouldn’t look too much into that.

“Good player, a wonderful talent but he’s a bit like Lingard.

“He left Chelsea and went to Real Madrid and he’s never played. Even when he’s played you’ve never heard of him.

“It speaks volumes how about how he’s playing. Remember, he went on big money but he’s been injured.

“For me, you would rather spend £20million on someone else.

“You shouldn’t bring players in because they’re big names. They’ve got to be good fits in the dressing room.”

Hazard, who has been labelled as “breathtaking“, has played 12 league games this season, but is yet to score a goal and has provided just a solitary assist.

The Belgian still has three more years left on his contract at the club which expires in the summer of 2024.
