First three games for West Ham United after World Cup key to David Moyes future

David Moyes could be fighting to save his job if the results do not favour West Ham after the World Cup break, according to Dean Jones.

The Hammers are one point and two places above the Premier League’s relegation zone, and Jones, who previously worked for Bleacher Report, suggests his job could be on the line depending on the results of the first three games after the World Cup.

90min reported on November 15 that the Hammers board has told Moyes that his job at the London Stadium is safe for now, despite a poor start to the season.

“The first three games back will be key for Moyes in deciding how much longer he is going to be the manager of West Ham,” said Jones to GiveMeSport [9 December].

Pressure

The first games after the World break for the Hammers are against Arsenal, Brentford and Leeds.

The Hammers have struggled to pick up points away from home this season, managing just one win so far. They lost five games away from home and it won’t be easy against Arsenal and Leeds, straight after the World Cup.

The Gunners are top of the Premier League and have won all of their six home games so far. The Hammers need to produce a special performance to get something at the Emirates Stadium.

Likewise, Elland Road is always a difficult place to visit, and it will be a challenging fixture for the Hammers.

Moyes has done a terrific job at West Ham, and the club backed him in the summer transfer window to bring players of his choice. They spent over £150million on transfers, and the Hammers hierarchy won’t settle for a relegation battle.

The former Manchester United manager has got enough time to turn things around at the London Stadium, but the results need to improve quickly.
