Finance expert: West Ham United unlikely to match £60m deal amid proposed Premier League rule changes
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
West Ham are reportedly unlikely to find another sponsor that could give them the same value as their current front-of-shirt advertisers Betway.
That’s according to football finance expert Dan Plumley who claims that the Hammers’ deal is viewed as the best of the rest deal in the Premier League.
This means that apart from the “big six”, their deal does look to be the most appetising in terms of raw numbers and value.

The Hammers signed a six-year, £60million deal with Betway in 2019 which equates to £10million a year.
However, according to the Times on 16 December, the Premier League clubs are now under further pressure to ban gambling sponsors.
Discussing a potential new sponsor at West Ham, Plumley told West Ham Zone exclusively, “It would depend on the industry [for an alternative to a gambling sponsor].
“Looking at the numbers, you would say that it’s unlikely they would get a deal tomorrow or next season away from a gambling sponsor that would command that high a value because that is the best of the rest deal.
“You would then be looking to set your sights low in the short term before growing it back in the long term and that would then depend on the industry you would target.
“All the numbers we’ve seen so far suggest that the West Ham deal was the best deal on the table outside of the big six.”

Betway has had some controversial moments in the past and the Hammers could actually benefit by breaking away from them.
It remains to be seen what the outcome of this all is, but if a ban is imposed, things will quickly be put in motion over a change.
