Fabrizio Romano wowed by Dominic Solanke as West Ham United and Bournemouth transfer update shared

Bournemouth ace Dominic Solanke is “happy” at his current club amid continued interest from West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside (10 December), Romano has doubled down on reports suggesting the Hammers are targeting the Cherries striker but admits that Solanke is in no rush to move clubs.

The 26-year-old played an important role during a 3-0 victory over Manchester United, scoring his eighth league goal of the season as the Cherries rewrote history with the club’s first-ever win at Old Trafford.

West Ham

“I’ve been impressed with him this season as he always looked like an excellent player with great potential, but he’s now showing it more consistently,” Romano wrote.

“In terms of a transfer, he’s happy at Bournemouth but many clubs are tracking him, including West Ham. Let’s see what will happen, but for the moment I understand he’s happy there and performing very well.”

Break the cycle

The Hammers have been calling out for a star striker for several seasons. And with Michail Antonio suffering from an injury, the January transfer window cannot come quick enough for David Moyes.

Despite a decent start to the 2023/24 season, sitting in ninth in the Premier League and set to progress in the Europa League, the striker situation at West Ham is still a cause for concern.

West Ham

West Ham have not witnessed a 20-plus-goals-a-season striker since Marlon Harewood in 2004/05. The Hammers have been starved of a reliant poacher, with Solanke the next interest at London Stadium.

The Englishman’s performance against Man United on Saturday was just further proof that Solanke could be the fix to West Ham’s striker problem. As well as Jarrod Bowen has functioned as an out-and-out striker, his preferred position is clearly out on the wing.

Danny Ings is not good enough for the Premier League, being yet to score during this campaign. If West Ham have the chance to buy Solanke, they should.

In other West Ham news, Aston Villa want to sign an international Hammers player and things aren’t going well for him currently.
