Fabrizio Romano: West Ham United defender Thilo Kehrer offered to Roma as January exit update emerges

West Ham United have offered Thilo Kehrer to Roma ahead of the January transfer window as he nears the Hammers exit, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported in his Daily Briefing column (24 December) that the Italian giants are looking to sign a new defender and the 27-year-old Hammers defender has been offered as a potential option ahead of the window.

Roma have multiple options to choose from, with Italy international Leonardo Bonucci also being offered to Jose Mourinho as he eyes a place at Euro 2024, but as of now, the Giallorossi have not decided which player to sign in the new year.

Getting him gone

It is clear that West Ham want Kehrer off their wage bill and away from the London Stadium as soon as possible as they are now beginning to offer his services to other clubs in an attempt to get him out the door as soon as feasibly possible.

The German defender has seen his involvement massively reduced this season as he has played little more than a bit part domestically, instead being a regular inclusion in David Moyes’ Europa League and Carabao Cup squads.

So far this season, the 27-year-old has only featured in four Premier League matches, all of which have come in short appearances from the substitutes bench, clocking in at a miserable 19 minutes of action. He is not required at the London Stadium and the Irons are doing their utmost to move him on.

With the signing of Konstantinos Mavropanos, partnered with the good form of Vladimir Coufal, Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd this season, Kehrer has quickly slipped down the pecking order and is now little more than a spare part in Moyes’ team.

Whether or not Roma will agree a deal to take the defender off of West Ham’s hands in January remains to be seen, but it would be an excellent opportunity for the Irons to pocket a reasonable fee and reinvest that money back into their forward line instead.

In other West Ham news, one broadcaster has slammed Mavropanos claiming he has no future with the Irons.
