Fabrizio Romano: West Ham move for Gabriel Barbosa unlikely to happen
Fabrizio Romano has insisted that West Ham United are unlikely to sign Flamengo attacker Gabriel Barbosa this month.
The Sky Sports journalist admitted that the Brazilian side are not interested in loan moves with obligations.
That is what the Irons are said to have offered, with an 18-month loan fancied before any permanent switch to the London Stadium.
Speaking live on his Twitch channel this afternoon (13 January), Romano responded to if the move will happen or not.
“Gabigol to West Ham? I think no,” he said.
“They offered a loan with buy option for 18 months but Flamengo are not accepting any loans for Gabigol.”
West Ham and David Moyes are crying out for another striker.
Michail Antonio has seen goals dry up in the final third, and with no out-and-out option to replace him, it could become a problem.
Barbosa is the one player that has been strongly linked, and it may be down to Daniel Kretinsky and GSB to get this deal over the line.
It looks as though they will need to cough up the cash now, but with Champions League football on the line, surely it would be worth it.
Finishing in the top four is the ultimate goal, and we need signings for that to happen, that is very clear to everyone.
Fingers crossed this can switch in our favour very soon.
