Fabrizio Romano shares update on West Ham-linked Eddie Nketiah

Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that West Ham-linked Eddie Nketiah has still not agreed to terms with Arsenal amid growing transfer interest in his services.

The 21-year-old was offered a contract a few days back as Arsenal are keen on keeping a hold of the youngster, but he is mulling over his options before he decides what he wants to do.

Thus far, Bayer Leverkusen appear to be the one pushing to sign him, having pursued him for a few months, but West Ham have also shown an interest in recent months and could make a move for the Arsenal attacker.

West Ham have been in the hunt for a striker since Sebastien Haller left in January and the 21-year-old could be signed.

However, if the Hammers are to sign him they would have to fend off interest from a host of teams.

Can do better

Nketiah is certainly a promising talent – having been referred to as ‘phenomenal’ by Arteta last year. [The Athletic]

There’s a good chance he will come good in a few years, but he’s unlikely to join us and suddenly be a 20-goal striker in the Premier League.

He’s undoubtedly going to take some time to adapt, and while he’s shown fleeting glimpses of his true potential at Arsenal, he’s been highly inconsistent and has struggled to get minutes under Mikel Arteta.

West Ham

We have been linked with players like Tammy Abraham and Patson Daka, both of whom would walk into our playing eleven and instantly strengthen our team.

Given the interest in signing him, even if he is to leave Arsenal, the Gunners are unlikely to let him go on the cheap.

Our need of the hour is for a target man who has a solid injury record, unlike Michael Antonio who’s missed a number of games due to niggles.

Unfortunately, the Arsenal forward is neither of the two and we have to look at options elsewhere.
