Fabrizio Romano has said that West Ham are 'seriously interested' in securing the services of Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah.

The Sky Sports journalist, on the Arsenal Lounge podcast, stated that Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham are the frontrunners in the race to sign the 21-year-old.

He's also spoken about an interest from Watford, but that doesn't appear to be as credible as the two aforementioned clubs.

Romano said, "Many clubs are interested [in Nketiah]. Arsenal offered him a new contract, but at the moment the player is not convinced about signing it and is waiting.

"The biggest one is from Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen interested in him and also from England West Ham are seriously interested in him. Also, Watford were asking for him.

"Keep an eye in particular on Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham for him. For sure, these two are the most interested."

Will take him

Nketiah must not be our first-choice option as we need someone with the experience of leading the line for a club for a considerable amount of time.

The Arsenal forward has shown promise, but it's only been fleeting glimpses of his talent and he hasn't been very consistent when given the opportunities by Mikel Arteta.

That said, given the inflated market, if we're unable to land some of our primary targets, Nketiah would be a good option.

He knows the English game well, having polished himself by playing in the Championship and the Premier League.

He's also worked under Marcelo Bielsa so his work ethic is certainly unquestioned.

There have been doubts over his end product, but given his age, it's fine to be rough around the edges and David Moyes could help make him a lethal Premier League striker should he move to the London Stadium this summer.
