Fabrizio Romano raves about ‘smart’ Jarrod Bowen decision by West Ham United – ‘Underrated’

Fabrizio Romano raved about the “smart move” West Ham made by handing Jarrod Bowen a contract until 2023.

The prominent journalist described the England international as “underrated” and one of the best wingers in Europe.

Back in October, the Hammers confirmed Bowen had agreed terms on a six-and-a-half-year deal, a move that looks inspired given his form this season.

Posting on X (29 December), Romano wrote: “Jarrod Bowen keeps shining this season as one of the best wingers in Europe.

“24 appearances. 13 total goals scored, 11 in PL. 5 assists provided.

“New deal until 2030, smart move by #WHUFC. …underrated.”

One of the best around

Bowen has been an excellent servant for the Hammers since arriving from Hull City in January 2020, and his performances recently led Jurgen Klopp to describe him as his favourite Premier League player outside of his own Liverpool squad.

This season has shown just how important a player Bowen is. Having played most of his career on the right wing, Bowen has been used predominantly as a centre-forward this season due to a lack of options there for David Moyes.

He already has 11 goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season, just one shy of his best tally in a single season for the Irons back in the 2021-22 campaign – a tally that he will surpass with ease.

Romano is right to be praising the Hammers for their business on this one. Best case scenario is they keep an excellent player for his prime years and he cements himself as a West Ham legend. Or if any club does want to sign him they’ll have to stump up some eye-watering money to do so.

In other West Ham news, a sack decision has been made on David Moyes as sit-down talks planned.
