Fabrizio Romano late-night update: West Ham United announcement due within hours for Kalvin Phillips
West Ham will announce the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on Friday morning, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported via his X account on Thursday evening (25 January) that all documents between the Hammers and Manchester City had been completed.
Later that evening, the transfer specialist provided an update, revealing that the midfielder’s arrival at the London Stadium will be announced on Friday morning.
David Moyes’ side will have an option to purchase the 28-year-old permanently in the summer for £40million.
Exciting
It has been the worst-kept secret in football for a few days now, but it looks as if Phillips’ switch from Manchester to East London is set to finally be announced.
While it has already been all but confirmed, and Michail Antonio himself practically gave the transfer away, West Ham supporters will be keen to get a peek of the England international pulling on the shirt officially and would have been holding off until the deal was official before going out and buying a West Ham shirt with Phillips on the back.
For Phillips himself, he will likely be just as excited as the fans of his new club are. He has made just four Premier League appearances this season and will be keen to get back on the pitch and playing regularly again.
It is a move which works for everyone, and if he performs at the levels he showed at Elland Road with Leeds United, £40million could suddenly look like a bargain come the summer.
In other West Ham news, a striker linked with the club is set to be the subject of a Premier League meeting.
