Fabrizio Romano drops fresh West Ham United update amid David Moyes sack decision

West Ham are not currently looking at options to replace David Moyes despite having no plans to discuss his contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Hammers boss is out of contract at the end of the season and is currently overseeing the best start to a campaign since the 2015/16 season, as well as winning a European trophy in the last campaign.

But West Ham aren’t planning talks to renew his deal currently, with the plan to open talks nearer the time, and Romano says he’s not aware of anyone being lined up to replace him as things stand.

“I’m absolutely not aware of any name being lined up to replace David Moyes despite there being no contract talks with West Ham, and I also think it wouldn’t be normal to have someone lined up nine months before,” he said in his Daily Briefing on Substack (7 October).

“The Hammers are just taking things slowly, month by month. They’re calm and not in a rush.

“Moyes’ job has been very good so far but the club is changing. Tim Steidten joined as the new director this summer and is doing a great job, and it will take time to prepare for the future.”

Sensible

It may seem ruthless but it seems to us that the club are taking this very sensibly and being respectful about it.

We all know there were issues between Moyes and Tim Steidten in the summer regarding the direction of the club and transfer targets, so that’s something that has to be addressed going forward.

But there were also big question marks about Moyes’ future at the end of last season before he won the Europa Conference League and we’d be foolish to ignore that just because of a good start this time around.

Conversations need to be had and there’s no doubting that Moyes could stay on and continue to be successful here, but he may also want a say in this and to try something new.

The club are keeping their options open but not being disrespectful about it, and so long as everyone is on the same page then there’s no reason for this to turn sour.
