FA to have ‘serious evidence’ against West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta

Andy Dunn has compared West Ham star Lucas Paqueta and his betting allegations to David Beckham who was accused of a similar offence in 2004.

The Brazilian was hit with multiple charges by the FA on Thursday (23 May) which could eventually see him banned in the future.

He has been accused of getting yellow cards on purpose and Dunn believes there must be lots of evidence for the FA to bring it forward and has compared Paqueta to an English icon.

In an article for the Sunday Mirror (26 May, page 67), he said: “To bring such serious charges, the Football Association must have serious evidence.

“How do you actually prove he has got himself booked on purpose? I guess that if the player confesses it would help.

“An England player did exactly that in October 2004. On that occasion, the FA decided there was “insufficient evidence” to pursue a disciplinary charge. Mind you, the player was David Beckham.”

What will happen to Lucas Paqueta at West Ham?

It is a frustrating situation at the London Stadium to have a player involved in such a scandal which could affect them moving forward.

Paqueta has been one of the shining lights for the Hammers in an overly uninspiring season which has seen them finish ninth.

With David Moyes departing and Julen Lopetegui coming in ahead of next season, he will want the best players available.

There have been rumours suggesting that the Brazilian could be let go [HITC] for the Spaniard to be able to shape his squad in his own image this summer.

A move to Manchester City appeared to be on the cards which may have funded multiple transfers during the window.

Now it looks like he will stay at the club and potentially feature for West Ham until his punishment is confirmed by the FA.

It is unclear as to how they might punish the Brazilian but it is certain to negatively affect the Hammers next season.

In other West Ham news, the wife of a Hammers player has potentially stirred up a controversy with her recent comments on social media accusing the club of bias.
