FA set to charge Lucas Paqueta at West Ham United in new update

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta is set to be charged by the FA in regards to betting rule breaches, according to Graeme Bailey.

The HITC journalist shared the news on Thursday 23 May, with the Brazilian set to be punished now the Premier League season has concluded.

The FA were facing a deadline of this week to make a decision on Paqueta, with the potential decision to charge him previously described as “Disgraceful” by Sean Whetstone.

Writing on X, Bailey said: “HITC understands that the Football Association are charging West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta in regards to breaches of their betting rules.”

Whetstone went on to share that the FA supposedly had no evidence to go against Paqueta, but given this decision, they have something now.

It is alleged that the midfielder intentionally sought a yellow card in four separate games for people to benefit from betting.

This looks set to go long into the summer, and could even go as far as to keep Paqueta at the London Stadium with Manchester City previously put off a transfer because of this saga.

On the same day that Julen Lopetegui was officially confirmed to be taking over from David Moyes, this was not the start he would have wanted.

With appeal processes in place to be used if needed though, an initial charge isn’t likely to be the end of this proposed betting saga.

This is certainly something to watch, with Paqueta set to be potentially banned as a result now that it has become official from the FA.
