ExWHUemployee: West Ham United want to make three priority signings this summer
West Ham United are eyeing three key signings this summer, including Jesse Lingard, according to ExWHUemployee.
The Hammers insider claimed on his personal Twitter account last night that manager David Moyes wants a striker, a centre-back and the Manchester United attacking midfielder first and foremost when the transfer window opens in the coming days.
Other signings will be pursued as covers, with West Ham not looking to spend much on such players.
ExWHUemployee posted: “My understanding is that they are the three priority signings. Once they are filled and we are happy we can then look for other positions/availability to bolster squad but they would obviously be cheaper deals.”
Quality over quantity
We only want to land key players this summer, and that is understandable given the financial situation of things.
However, the Irons could do with another central midfielder given that Mark Noble is the only top option available on the bench to provide cover for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.
The additional demands of the Europa League campaign and long travels could be too much for the trio to handle, and it is why a move for Spartak Moscow midfielder Alex Kral makes sense.
Fabian Balbuena is set to leave this summer after his contract was not extended, and we clearly need to get in a quality and long-term replacement.
West Ham cannot afford to solely rely on Michail Antonio next season, and we think failing to land a direct replacement for Sebastien Haller in January did not do our chances of strongly pushing for Champions League qualification any good.
Another prolific hitman could have boosted our top-four chances, and we need to get one in this summer.
Lingard has already found a home at the London Stadium, and West Ham need to pull out all the stops to sign him permanently.
