ExWHUemployee: West Ham United set for Gianluca Scamacca injury boost

Gianluca Scamacca will return to West Ham training this week after meeting with an injury specialist in Italy, according to ExWHUemployee.

Speaking on his Patreon podcast, The West Ham Way (12 February) ExWHUemployee claimed Scamacca has almost recovered from the knee injury that has kept him sidelined for three weeks.

The West Ham Way (13 February) described the news as a “huge boost” with David Moyes soon to have three fully fit forwards to choose from.

On his podcast, ExWHUemployee said, “The club hope that, having met with a specialist in Rome this week, that Gianluca Scamacca will be able to return to training this week.”

The Italian has missed games against Everton, Newcastle United and Chelsea, a run that has seen Moyes’ side go unbeaten.

However, the Irons remain 16th in the league, two points off the relegation zone ahead of Monday’s (13 February) Merseyside derby.

Timely boost

As positive as this news is, it remains unclear when Scamacca will return to first-team action.

Ironically, our recent turnaround in form has taken place without the Italian in the side, with Michail Antonio filling in.

Scamacca has been anything but consistent this season with his first two league goals coming in consecutive games before waiting for eight games for his next strike.

That being said, the timing of his return could not be any more ideal. With the Europa Conference League campaign set to get back underway in around four weeks’ time, the club need as many fit senior players as possible.

With Premier League status far from secure, no one can’t afford for fixture congestion to eat through their squad and leave them threadbare for vital Premier League clashes against Aston Villa, Southampton and Bournemouth, all of which take place within two weeks of our next European tie.

Hopefully, Scamacca can return with the goals needed to survive.
