ExWHUemployee shares if West Ham close to signing Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri

West Ham are reportedly in pursuit for but not close to signing Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri in this transfer window.

According to ExWHUemployee, the club are looking at other left-back options as well as they’re keen on signing one before the market shuts.

This is a deal that would work for Chelsea as well, but they’re keen on a permanent sale than loaning him out.

West Ham

Ex wrote, “As mentioned earlier. Emerson was one of the players we spoke about when discussing loan options with Chelsea last week (as covered in our updates last week).

“Chelsea however would rather sell and considering we want other Chelsea players on loan this would work for both parties.

“At this point however, no deal is close and all left back options are being explored.”

Better options out there

Emerson has struggled in the Premier League already and there are no indications that he would be an upgrade on the first team.

The Hammers need to sign someone who is better than Aaron Cresswell and who also offers a long-term option.

Unfortunately, the Italian is none of the above and it makes sense for the club to wait it out and consider other players.

Emerson is clearly on the decline and he’s not going to be a wise signing if he’s signed permanently this summer.

If West Ham can convince them to do a loan, then he can be considered as a last resort but must not be prioritised at this stage.

Hopefully, they even get a new midfielder and centre-back in place sooner rather than later.
