ExWHUemployee shares Conor Coventry future update at West Ham United amid international blow
West Ham United loanee Conor Coventry is now set to return for pre-season after missing out on a place in the Ireland national squad because of injury, according to ExWHUemployee.
The Hammers academy product, who has been on loan this season at Rotherham, has impressed greatly during his temporary spell at the New York Stadium, featuring in 16 Championship games before suffering a hamstring injury in April.
And according to Ex, speaking on the West Ham Way podcast [2 June], the 23-year-old has subsequently missed out on a place in the Ireland squad ahead of their Euro 2024 matches but will return to East London for pre-season in a chance to prove his worth.

He said: “The player impressed whilst on loan at Rotherham and it was thought that Stephen Kenny Ireland’s manager wanted to use him for the squad for the coming matches against Greece and Gibraltar.
”He picked up his injury at the end of his loan spell and sadly hasn’t recovered in time.
“Coventry, who has one year left of his West Ham deal, went on loan to Championship side Rotherham in January when they were rooted in the relegation zone. He was instrumental in the team’s revival and helped them finish 19th and 6 points off the relegation spots.
”Coventry will return to West Ham pre-season training for next season in the hope of proving his game has advanced enough during this loan to make him a contender for a squad place at West Ham.”
Big chance
It’s such a huge shame for Coventry to miss out on a dream international spot for his native Ireland as his form and performances for Rotherham certainly warranted some recognition.
The midfielder may now have the chance to prove his worth at West Ham United with a summer of preseason on the horizon.

And given the change the club is about to embark on, without their key man Declan Rice in midfield who looks set to depart this summer, Coventry may well emerge to the London Stadium fore and finally become a first-team regular.
The 23-year-old averaged an impressive 1.9 tackles per game, 1.1 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, and 1 key pass per game all whilst registering two assists playing as a deep-lying midfielder, something the Hammers may well be in much shortage of should Rice inevitably depart.
After several loan spells elsewhere and his rapid development at Rotherham, the future certainly looks bright for Coventry, he now has the chance to prove his worth to the Hammers cause this summer in pre-season. He’s got to grab it with both hands.
