ExWHUemployee responds to West Ham United links with Scott McTominay

ExWHUemployee has responded to speculation that West Ham United could push to sign Manchester United after developments at Old Trafford.

90min reported that a loan move is more likely with the Irons one of the potential destinations with Casemiro set to sign for Erik Ten Haag’s side instead.

Ex shared that Moyes is a big fan of the Scottish international, and would be keen to bring in an established central midfielder to challenge Tomas Soucek if an opportunity arose.

Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon page on Friday evening [19 August], Ex responded as speculation started to really gather pace in the past 24 hours.

“It is interesting to note that Manchester United could be willing to consider offers for Scott McTominay, the Scottish international midfielder,” he wrote.

“David Moyes is a big fan and highlighted him as a one of the potential stars of Euro 2020 (although he did also do this about Alex Kral).

“It is felt that the manager is prepared to try and develop Flynn Downes and Conor Coventry this season but he would be keen to entertain another more established central midfielder to come in and challenge the out-of-form Tomas Soucek for a starting place.”

West Ham

Smart?

With a cheap loan deal potentially on the table, this could tick all of the boxes.

If West Ham United can also add in a cheap obligation or option to make it a permanent move for McTominay, Moyes would no doubt be delighted.

Playing alongside Declan Rice in a midfield two would bring great athleticism in the middle of the park, with Soucek looking nothing more than sluggish in recent months.

Moyes will know the midfielder inside and out, and sometimes transfers just fall into your lap that are far too good to pass down, this is one of those.

Of course, a new left-back and attacking midfielder are the current priorities at the London Stadium, but if McTominay could be added on top of that, who would say no?

This is certainly one to watch as we get closer to the window slamming shut.
