ExWHUemployee: Rangers lead West Ham in race to sign Ross Barkley

Rangers lead West Ham United in the race to sign free agent Ross Barkley after his release from Chelsea according to ExWHUemployee.

It’s understood that West Ham have previously discussed the possibility of signing the 28-year-old attacking midfielder.

Ex also wrote on his Patreon on Tuesday 30 August, that Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic are also in the hunt for Barkley, with other Scottish clubs also showing an interest in the former Everton man.

Move on

A 28-year-old Barkley on big wages is not a progressive signing for West Ham and doesn’t align with the business that they have done so far this summer.

23-year-old Gianluca Scamacca is a long-term asset for the club and the latest addition Lucas Paqueta is an exciting prospect who should be able to perform for an extended period of time for the Hammers, after his £51.3million move from Lyon, according to The Guardian.

Barkley has never hit the heights expected of him after his time with Everton and is now looking to revive his career.

At 28, the midfielder really needs to hit the ground running with his next club, with a move to Scotland looking the most likely destination at the moment.

West Ham’s additions have been smart and with the future in mind, and bringing Barkley to The London Stadium on big wages would not be the smartest idea from the board.

Paqueta also operates in a similar role to the former Chelsea man and has proven himself to be at a much higher level over recent years.

The news of the Old Firm duo leading the race should come as good news to The London Stadium faithful.
