ExWHUemployee: London Stadium adaptation is here to stay despite West Ham United fans’ disapproval

West Ham recently installed a wall in the West Stand separating home and away fans – ExWHUemployee insists it’s there to stay.

While much of the focus during Saturday’s clash against Wolves was on the pitch, fans attending the London Stadium noticed a big change in the stands.

The club have installed a wall in the West Stand section between home and away fans, completely separating the two groups of supporters.

It’s a decision that didn’t go down well with West Ham fans, but ExWHUemployee has reported that it’s a feature set to stay at the London Stadium.

“Unfortunately it’s here to stay for the immediate future at least,” he said in a Q&A on TheWestHamWay.

“The reason it was introduced was because of policing issues and the club decided to take action with that particular area in the ground.

“Personally I don’t like it as it hampers the atmosphere, but it certainly isn’t going away any time soon.”

An unwanted addition

Seeing a new wall installed at the stadium was definitely a surprise for most match-going fans on Saturday afternoon.

The club failed to communicate the decision to the fanbase before going ahead with the installation, and it’s definitely not gone down well with the fanbase.

As pointed out by the ExWHUemployee, it’s a sure way to decrease the atmosphere at London Stadium.

With the side currently in poor form and needing all the help they can get from the fanbase, it seems strange that the club have decided now is the time to install a wall separating fanbases.

If the police have raised issues around the fanbase and the trouble caused, then it’s certainly something that needs addressing by the club, but the solution seems rash and not thought through.

In the long term all it will do is decrease the atmosphere at London Stadium and make it a worse experience for both sets of fans.

It’ll take some getting used to, that’s for sure.
