ExWHUemployee: Ben Johnson set to return to action earlier than expected

West Ham defender Ben Johnson is ‘ahead of schedule’ in terms of returning to action, according to ExWHUemployee.

The Hammers trusted source claims while the initial diagnosis of the hamstring injury the 21-year-old sustained earlier this month against Chelsea said he would be out for two to four weeks, he is on course to return earlier.

Johnson has missed the Premier League games against Burnley and Arsenal as a result, but it remains to be seen whether he would be available for the next game this weekend.

Boost?

West Ham are set to host Norwich City on Saturday (18 December), and if the game goes ahead as planned, the full-back could be available for selection.

If he misses the game, he is likely to return for the League Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur next Wednesday (22 December) or the clash against Southampton on Boxing Day.

Johnson played at both right-back and left-back prior to his injury, and it is safe to say he has been missed.

The Hammers have lost and drawn one in his absence, with both Vladimir Coufal and Arthur Masuaku unable to influence those games.

Johnson has just a goal in 13 appearances across all competitions so far in 2021-22, but he has hardly put a foot wrong since he briefly established himself as a starter while the Czech Republic international was out injured.

West Ham need all hands on deck right now after a shaky start to the month, and having one of their most important players back would be great.
