Exit-linked West Ham United outcast Maxwel Cornet sends message after playing in int’l qualifier

West Ham outcast Maxwel Cornet has sent a message on Instagram after playing for the Ivory Coast against Lesotho on Saturday (9 September).

The 26-year-old was named in the starting lineup and played 69 minutes as his side earned a 1-0 victory in the African Nations Cup qualifier.

The winger, who was linked with Everton towards the end of the transfer window, posted a picture of himself on Instagram after the game, adding the caption “My country, thank you for the support.”

Much-needed minutes

It’s good to see Cornet got a decent run out for the Ivory Coast after falling well down the pecking order at West Ham this season.

The winger hasn’t had the best time in East London since joining from Burnley just over a year ago, having never properly recovered from an injury he picked up at the start of last season.

It looked as though the Ivorian could be on his way to Goodison Park in the closing stages of the transfer window, but that move never materialised and he stayed with the Irons to fight for his place.

He has only featured once off the bench for the Hammers this season, but he could be in line for some more game time once our European campaign gets underway in a couple of weeks.

Although Cornet will have wanted to have made more of a statement for his country, it will have done him some good to get some much-needed minutes and he can look to build on that moving forward.
