Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon on Thursday evening (24 February), Ex shared the latest on the defender.

“As confirmed on the official website, Vladimir Coufal has undergone surgery on a groin injury,” he wrote.

“Whilst no deadline was given for his recovery he is expected to be out until the final games of the season at best.”

Blow.

This has been a real problem.

Fredericks came in against Newcastle, and he was nothing short of shocking in the opening 45 minutes at the London Stadium.

So much so, Moyes decided to wield the axe on him at half-time and hand the role to Johnson, who performed better.

Coufal has been excellent since arriving, and similar to Aaron Cresswell on the opposite flank, has been consistent.

Now, that has changed and the answer has to be found, with points desperately needed in the chase for European football.

If this starts to become a real problem, then it could cost us that shot at the top four yet again, although it already seems to be doing just that.

Something needs to change quickly, let’s hope this problem doesn’t stick around for too long.
