Everything we know about Nuno Espirito Santo’s contract situation as West Ham upturn continues

Nuno Espirito Santo is doing his utmost to drag West Ham away from the relegation zone.

The Portuguese head coach came in at the London Stadium six months ago and underwent a difficult start with the Hammers.

Things have started to turn around in recent weeks as the battle against dropping from the Premier League continues.

The claret and blue outfit are now facing a true fight with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham for who faces the prospect of Championship football next season.

Although nothing is certain right now, West Ham Zone has rounded up everything we know about Nuno’s contract in East London.

What is Nuno Espirito Santo’s contract situation?

The 52-year-old arrived in E20 just weeks after his shock departure from Nottingham Forest after European qualification last campaign.

There were high hopes among fans to see what the former Wolves boss could do with the Irons in the relegation battle.

That isn’t to say that everything was positive, as a drop into the second tier still felt like a likely possibility.

Nuno obviously felt that concern when he put pen to paper on a three-year contract at the London Stadium.

He requested that a clause be included in his deal that would allow him to walk free if his side are relegated this campaign.

Until that potential exit, the head coach will be paid a reported £4.5million, which ranks him within the top-10 highest-paid managers in the Premier League.

When could Nuno leave West Ham?

The Hammers are looking increasingly likely to avoid relegation at this stage after their win away to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

That has left the Irons on level points with Nottingham Forest as the battle continues to intensify with nine matches to go.

If they can’t catch up with the Reds, the taste of relegation could become even more sour if Nuno is to leave in the summer.

That is entirely possible due to his exit clause and will ultimately be down to his own discretion once the campaign comes to an end.

If he can avoid the Championship, there is every chance he may stick around longer into his contract with the hope of carrying the Irons up the division.
