Everything Alan Shearer said about West Ham win vs Tottenham on Match of the Day

West Ham beat Tottenham 2-1 on Saturday to dramatically improve their chances of Premier League survival.

Crysencio Summerville gave West Ham the lead in the first half before Cristian Romero levelled the scoreline with a powerful header.

With the game finely poised, it was Callum Wilson who scored the winning goal from close range after goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario flapped at a corner in the 93rd minute.

For Nuno Espirito Santo, it was a huge sigh of relief that his side finally got over the line, and Alan Shearer was impressed with several West Ham players at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alan Shearer holds high praise for Crysencio Summerville

Nuno came into the match under pressure, but he’s just brought himself some time as the Hammers win just their second away game of the season.

The result leaves West Ham five points off 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, and fans have been given a huge boost in confidence that their side has what it takes to make a great escape.

Speaking on Match of the Day on 17 January, Shearer named Summerville among others to have left him impressed.

He said: “Everything they didn’t have against Wolves, they had today. Summerville, in particular, was absolutely outstanding.

“He got a little bit of luck with the goal, but he got his team up the pitch and drew some good fouls.

“[Aaron] Wan-Bissaka deserves a mention, [Mateus] Fernandes deserves one too.

“You can’t take anything away from them; they were brave, and the effort was there.”

The Dutch winger was electric on Saturday, and he is finally showing glimpses of his potential under Nuno.

Tottenham vs West Ham performance will do Summerville the world of good

Signing for £25million plus add-ons from Leeds United in August 2024, Summerville made the move to West Ham to take them to another level under Julen Lopetegui.

However, Summerville has failed to find his feet in E20, although he has been offered several chances by Nuno to prove his worth.

The Dutch winger has only registered seven goal contributions in 40 appearances for the Hammers, but after impressing against QPR on 11 January, he followed it up with a stunning display against Thomas Frank’s side.

Hopefully, he can continue to deliver these performances consistently, because if he does, the Hammers will certainly feel that they can avoid relegation.
