Erik ten Hag named in new West Ham United manager update

Erik ten Hag hasn’t been mentioned as a potential name to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United, Alex Crook says.

The talkSPORT journalist dismissed the former Manchester United head coach as a candidate to take over from the Spaniard after being asked whether Hammers would fancy the Dutchman.

The Irons lost 3-1 to Leicester on 3 December at the King Power Stadium, and the hierarchy at London Stadium have been discussing making a change in the dugout [Daily Mail, 5 December].

When asked if Ten Hag could succeed Lopetegui, Crook wrote on X [5 December]: “Not a name mentioned to me, no.”

Erik ten Hag a decent option for West Ham United

Ten Hag was sacked by the Red Devils recently after a poor start to the campaign, winning just three of his nine games in charge.

The 2-1 loss to the Hammers on 27 October at Old Trafford was the final nail in the coffin for the Dutch national, with Ruben Amorim now taking the helm at the Manchester club.

While the London Stadium faithful will evidently be wary of Ten Hag due to his record in the English top flight with Man United, the 54-year-old’s Ajax team was one of the best in the world.

West Ham could do worse than the Dutchman, with the likes of Graham Potter, Edin Terzic and Sergio Conceicao being discussed by the hierarchy [The Sun, 3 December].

Despite Ten Hag’s failings with the Red Devils, the Dutchman won two trophies during his time at Old Trafford, lifting the Carabao Cup in his first season in charge and the FA Cup in 2024.

David Moyes wasn’t popular among the Hammers’ faithful, but the Scotsman delivered the UEFA Conference League trophy at the East London club.

The Irons should be in conversations with the top teams in the Premier League rather than toiling around the relegation zone.

Ten Hag could be a shock arrival, and David Sullivan should think about giving the former Ajax head coach another shot in the English top flight.

In other West Ham news, an update has emerged regarding Massimiliano Allegri as Lopetegui’s replacements are being sought.
