Erik ten Hag footage after West Ham game will never be aired after Man United sack

Manchester United will not air Erik ten Hag’s final press conference following his sacking after the 2-1 loss to West Ham United, according to Chris Wheeler.

The Daily Mail journalist posted on his X account [28 October] that Ten Hag had undergone a pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester City EFL Cup tie in the aftermath of the loss to West Ham.

However, that will now never see the light of day after his dismissal at Old Trafford on Monday (28 October).

The Hammers delivered the final nail in the coffin for the Dutchman on Sunday [27 October] as Jarrod Bowen’s 92-minute penalty secured his fate.

Wheeler said: “Ten Hag’s final press conference for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Leicester was done after the West Ham game yesterday and will never be aired.

“[Ruud] van Nistelrooy won’t do one before Leicester but is expected to speak afterwards.”

West Ham United deliver ironic final blow to Erik ten Hag

Julen Lopetegui has been far from secure in his role in East London this season but the result against Manchester United at the expense of Ten Hag could be a real turning point for the Spaniard.

West Ham Zone exclusively told that Lopetegui does have the backing of the Hammers board but there is an impetus to improve the results – as his tenure takes an ironic twist as it is he who delivers the final blow for another under-fire manager.

The Irons were admittedly “poor” in the first half, but Lopetegui executed his substitutions to perfection as Crysencio Summerville came off the bench to score the opener, and Danny Ings won the penalty that decided the match after Casemiro levelled the game for the visitors.

Ten Hag rightfully received the backlash from the result as he issued more excuses in his post-match press conference.

Still, he ultimately paid the final price at Old Trafford and his dismissal should be a warning of things to come for Lopetegui if he does not build on his momentum-boosting performance.

West Ham face Nottingham Forest away from home and Everton at the London Stadium in the Premier League before the international break, two sides currently enjoying good form who will prove stiff opposition for the Irons.

Lopetegui will continue to be under intense pressure until the Hammers are where they believe they belong, challenging for the European places.

Until then, managers such as Jose Mourinho will be touted as a potential replacement as he adds further fuel to the fire, opening up on his desire to return to his “home” of London.
