Edson Alvarez reacts to question on West Ham United future amid exit links
West Ham United ace Edson Alvarez has spoken out on his future at the club after being quizzed about rumours he could leave in the close-season.
It was reported by Fabrizio Romano (19 June) that Manchester United are considering the Mexico midfielder as a replacement for Casemiro, and is a player “appreciated” by Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.
Alvarez played for Ten Hag at Ajax but for now Alvarez is focused only on playing at the Copa America with Mexico and will put any thoughts on his future on hold.
“I can only tell you that I’m focused on what I have to do,” he said in quotes reported by the Manchester Evening News (22 June).
“I know that the Copa America is a very important tournament where the eyes of the world are basically there. Later there will be time to see what there is or what there isn’t.”
Where could West Ham United ace Edson Alvarez end up this season?
You would have to think West Ham have a fairly strong hand in this one.
He only arrived at the London Stadium from Ajax last August in a £35.4million move (Sky Sports) and they would want a significant profit if they were to even contemplate a sale.
It is also a test of the Hammers’ own ambition with the 2024/25 season a new era for the club. Julen Lopetegui has taken over and has already managed to bring in the likes of Luis Guilherme this summer [The Athletic, 13 June].

However, in order for the Hammers to better their result from last season and find themselves competing within Europe again, they have to try to keep hold of their best players.
And, the departure of Alvarez could be too big of a void to fill considering his form and ability.
Especially if they wish to bring in more players over the course of summer.
