Edin Terzic makes West Ham decision in new manager twist

Edin Terzic will not become West Ham United’s next manager if Julen Lopetegui is sacked, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Germany journalist posted on X (5 December) to report that, with the Hammers under pressure to show Lopetegui the door, their former assistant manager Terzic has ruled himself out of the running.

Terzic was seen as one of the favourites to return to East London and succeed Lopetegui in the dugout, but with Plettenberg reporting that the Croatian42-year-old will not take charge, other options are being assessed.

Ex-Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand is one name on the list of potential successors to Lopetegui, but Terzic, who took Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, is no longer.

West Ham dealt huge blow by Edin Terzic decision

With many an Irons fan – certainly those who were in the away end at Leicester City on Tuesday night – now more than happy to see the back of Lopetegui, where the club turns to next is absolutely crucial.

While large swathes of supporters felt the time was right for David Moyes to exit stage left from the London Stadium, the mishandling of his contractual situation damaged an awful lot of goodwill.

Bringing in Lopetegui on the cheap rather than looking to truly build on the foundations left by Moyes has seen the Hammers take several backwards steps, despite £130million being spent over the summer.

Terzic, having been Slaven Bilic’s assistant in the Irons’ emotional, yet successful final season at Upton Park in 2015/16, would therefore have been many fans’ first choice to rebuild those burnt bridges.

However, Terzic backing away from a return not only makes West Ham look like an unattractive prospect to potential coaches, it also sees them miss out on recapturing a small piece of magic from the Boleyn.
