Early West Ham United team news v Southampton

West Ham will be without Maxwel Cornet for their Premier League clash against Southampton, as confirmed by David Moyes on Friday (14 October), as relayed by Simon Stone.

The BBC Sports journalist relayed the information on Twitter that Moyes is hopeful that summer signing Thilo Kehrer will be fit for the trip to St Mary’s.

Michail Antonio picked up a knock against Fulham, and the Hammers striker is currently feeling better.

Boost

Kehrer has been superb for the Hammers so far, and his return to the side will come as a huge boost.

The 26-year-old centre-back is a versatile defender who can also play as a right-back if needed.

There are some suggestions that Moyes wants to build a strong partnership between Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd, when he returns from injury.

In that case, Kurt Zouma could lose his position in the West Ham first eleven.

West Ham

Antonio scored the third goal against Fulham. Judging by what Moyes has said he looks unlikely to start but could take his place on the bench.

Gianluca Scamacca has been in brilliant form at the moment, and he is likely to start against the Saints.

Cornet has been injured for a while, and he is expected to return to training at some point within the next week. This game has come too soon for him.

The versatile winger has only managed 88 minutes of Premier League action so far, and he was a lot to prove when he returns to action.
